Cervantes Week is always held around 9 October, the date on which, according to historical records, the writer Miguel de Cervantes was baptised in 1547.

In 2002, it was designated a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, and in 2018 it was upgraded to a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
